Random Things

Hmmmm... it has kind of been a random week, and it is only Wednesday! Hannah has been doing much better the past couple of days- praise the Lord! I am so glad that my sweet little girl is feeling better and back to her normal self.

I am still in total nesting mode- I think that by the time this baby is born we will have moved every piece of furniture in our house. Yes... Mike is a lucky man.

I think I broke my pinky toe. I caught it on the end of the ottoman and had to suffer in silence, lest I wake up my child from her beauty rest. (I'm telling ya'll, nap time is sacred) I limped around the rest of the afternoon and about died when I had to put on shoes to run to the store. (I didn't go to the hospital or doctor because it's a pinky toe- the most they are going to do is tape it to your other toe and possibly give you pain killers, which I cannot take)

And one more random note- have you ever had the caramel candy corn? I am not a fan of candy corn, but I bought some to make a center piece (that I am totally ripping off from Allison) and for some strange, hormone induced reason, I decided to give the caramel candy corn a try- and I liked it. I don't know if it's the pregnancy or if the people at Brach's laced them with some kind of drug- but I cannot stop eating them. (which is strange because I am normally repulsed by just the thought of candy corn)

So that's my random Wednesday update. Hope you are all having a good week!

Hula Hoops

I could definitely be called someone who enjoys their personal space. I'm not a freak with unrealistic expectations about being in public, or crowds, or anything like that, but I like my space. Yesterday I was at Target unloading my cart and a woman and her two children got in line behind me. They only had a few items, and I had an entire cart load- if the cashier had not already started scanning my items, I would have let them go in front of me, but it was too late for that. (plus there was an express lane open). Well the woman proceeded to stand as close as possible, as if by standing close, the cashier would scan my stuff faster. Oh how I hate this! If you know me in real life, you have probably heard me rant about this before, and while I didn't search my archives, I may have mentioned it here. It just really bugs me when adults are so oblivious and have no idea (or worse- don't care) about how rude it is to stand so close to someone in line. I think we've all been there, the line at the grocery store, the ATM, a restaurant, what is it with these people? When I coached gymnastics and had a preschool class who would dog pile on top of each other, I would get out the hula-hoops. The kids would have to stay within their own hula-hoop and had enough room to sit, stretch, etc. Personal space is a lesson you should learn no later than age four. This woman was older than four, both of her children were older than four. I think she needed a hula-hoop.

Ahhh....Pregnancy

Thank you all for your wonderful comments! We are very excited!! I cannot believe that soon we will be a family of four! Needless to say, I have been busy. Between unpacking, watching Hannah, traveling (Mike has been out of town the past couple of weeks and we went to visit so we could be together on our anniversary and tell our parents our great news) and dealing with the oh so fun first trimester pregnancy symptoms, I haven't had much time on the computer! So instead of trying to respond to all of the emails and comments- I am just going to say thanks for all of the comments!! And I am so behind in reading all of your blogs I don't think I'll be able to catch up, so I'm just going to "start over". And now I must go have a milkshake, because I'm pregnant and I must obey the cravings.

Top Chef- Wrong Choice

Did you watch Top Chef? I think the judges made the wrong decision and should not have sent Antonia home. Antonia was a much stronger competitor throughout the whole competition and Lisa had such a terrible attitude and tonight was no different. Uggg!!!! I am disappointed- I have been ready for Lisa to go home for weeks- but I will say that the fan poll had it right- 91% thought she should have been the one to leave, stupid judges!!

Manners Revisited

Tonight Mike, Hannah, and I ventured out to a new restaurant that my parents recommended. We arrived at the restaurant at the same time as another woman who barged in front of us, and upon being greeted by a waitress began very bossily telling her where she wanted to sit, how many would be joining her, that she needed a booster seat, etc. She was loud and obnoxious, but perhaps her obnoxiousness was just her eagerness to meet up with her dining companions and eat delicious Chinese food coming across the wrong way? Even still, I was not very enthused when we were seated at a table next to her, but I decided to ignore this loud woman and get Hannah settled in and look over the menu. The woman was soon joined by her (loud) son and (presumably) grand daughter. Mike and I exchanged a look- that is a great thing about being together so long. I knew exactly what he was thinking and he knew exactly what I was thinking. We ordered our food, and were soon enjoying very delicious egg-rolls. My yummy dining experience was soon interrupted by the loud woman telling the waitress that her order was wrong. The waitress asked if she had ordered the #1, the woman replied (loudly) that she had indeed ordered the #1, but what was sitting in front of her was not what she had ordered. The son loudly intervened, and asked the waitress had she brought out the lunch special? (It was 6:30) The waitress responded that again the #1 was sitting in front of her and perhaps she had meant to order the combination #1? Now the waitress was not trying to be sassy- and was being very polite and simply trying to clear up the confusion. The woman demanded to see a menu and then very rudely told the waitress that she should have gotten the order correct because she had pointed to the page. The son then snapped at the waitress who had already said she would get the correct #1. Mike and I were appalled at their boorish behavior. They were (loudly) discussing child support, custody issues, etc. and were swearing in front of the young girl (not to mention everyone else in the restaurant who could hear). Completely inappropriate. I was appalled. But do you know what I found the most offensive? The woman happily shoveled her dinner into her mouth and chewed it with her mouth wide open. Oh yes she did. Luckily for Mike, he had his back to their table and he only had to hear their bad manners, but unfortunately that meant that it was I who had the misfortune of having this unpleasant and unappetizing view in my sight line. OH MY GOOD GRACIOUS! The entire meal this woman with her terrible table manners just kept shoveling the food in and chomping it with a wide open mouth. Now you may know how I feel about manners, my dining experience was deeply affected (and not in a good way) by this woman's lack of BASIC manners and respect for her fellow diners. But honestly I think that anyone would have been annoyed by this, even if you don't really think that manners aren't that important. (which you would be wrong- they are so important!) I resisted the urge to say something, and made it all the way out to the parking lot before exchanging another look with Mike. He laughed, he knew what I was thinking- but I had to say it anyways, "OH MY! MOST ANNOYING TABLE EVER" And with that we buckled Hannah into her car-seat, and drove away. Perhaps her fortune cookie contained a message about manners.

Fight The Frump- Shakin' It Up Sample Style

Fightfrumpbutton

It's Friday! Time to Fight The Frump With Mrs. Fussypants! Today Mike's car is getting the back window re-tinted, so he has my car. What in the world does this have to do with fighting the frump, you ask? Simple really, I am without a car so I am going to shake things up and abandon my normal routine and use up some samples! I have a ton of samples- make-up, hair care, lotions, face cream, eye cream, perfume, body wash- you name it! I am not one of those people who gets a free sample and goes home and tries it out. I have a train case that I toss all my free goodies in. ( I don't want to have to dig through them to get to my daily stuff) Most days I am not willing to try out new products- if they don't work, look bad, feel funny, etc. I don't usually have the time to re-do whatever it is that went wrong. But tomorrow I don't have nay plans and will be home all day, so it is the perfect time to give some new things a try. I have selected a few new products to try and have them all set out ready to try- I'll let you know next week if there were any products worth trying out, or any that should go straight to the trash.

Fight The Frump- Skin-care

Fightfrumpbutton

It's Friday and we are fighting the frump with Fussy! Today we are talking skin-care. Skin-care is such an important part of taking care of yourself and keeping pre-mature aging at bay. You should be removing make-up, cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting (sun-screen) daily, but today our focus is on serious skin care. I'm talking facials. Have you ever had a facial before? Most spas offer facials tailored to all different skin types so you can get some serious, professional help for any problems that you may have. Dry, oily, sensitive, damaged, acne prone, you name it. Today I went in for a facial because lately my skin has been a little, hmm..what's the word? Oh yes, crazy. Apart from being relaxing, my skin looks 100 times better than it did this morning. So ladies, take the plunge, splurge on yourself and make an appointment today! You are worth it!

Stress

I have been a little stressed out. We have had so much going on and it is starting to get to me. I haven't been sleeping and last night I started to shake. It didn't last very long, but it really made me stop and think about everything that we have had going on in our life right now. I got out my journal (something I haven't really done since I started this blog) and tried to write everything out. I felt better, but it still took me several more hours to fall asleep. So today I took off for some solo time while Mike played with Hannah. I know I need to make some changes before this gets totally out of hand. So I did a little shopping today (retail therapy- what can I say?) and got a few fun things for spring, I am going to make an appointment for a facial (the stress is making my skin insane) and eyebrow wax (I cannot be trusted with tweezers, I cannot stop myself and would end up with no eyebrows), a mani/pedi (because I think it's time for some pampering) and an appointment for our couples massage. I'm also going to try to get to bed earlier, and it's time for some diet changes. I am usually pretty picky about what we eat, (lots of natural/ organic, several vegetarian meals per week, etc) and I have been a little lax and we have been eating way too much meat and dairy. Seeing what Angela is doing for her husband to aid in his cancer treatment has reminded me how important it is to feed our bodies properly, and encouraged me to go back to a diet that is healthier for us. (oh comfort food- why are you so bad?) So I'm going to try to cut the meat down to three meals per week, and dramatically cut back on the dairy. I'm also going to try to decrease the sugar, as I have been hitting the sugar a little hard. So today I'm going to bed feeling so much better. I feel like I have a plan and am making positive changes before the stress get totally off the chart.
