David's First Day of School

Today was David's first day of "school" (mother's day out) and he was so excited! He is so proud of his big boy dinosaur back pack and could hardly wait to get out of the door.  He did humor me, and cheesed it up for some pictures.

 

He did so great! He has come so far from the little baby who cried every time we went to church, I am so proud of the confident little boy he has become!

Gone Fishing

Did you ever play this game as a kid? I loved this game, and the other day we got it down to play with our kiddos. Hannah and David both loved it!

David concentrated very hard to catch his fish. He preferred to catch the green ones, and is definitely a "catch and release" style fisherman. Wheras Hannah preferred to line up her bounty...

She caught one color at at time, first pink, then orange, etc., she cracks me up.

Eventually David grew tired of the restraints of using a pole and used the noodling method. ; )

The kids were content playing with this for ages, and it was a fun blast from the past! What games did you love as a kid, and do they still sell them today?

 

Last Week

Last week kicked my butt, and kicked it hard. My Uncle who has been the picture of health, had a stroke and passed away. It was very sudden, and honestly I am still a little shaken up. Mike was out of town for the majority of the week which meant that I had to go to meet the teacher with the kids by myself, (while I was just trying to keep it together and not randomly burst into tears) and also her first day of school. I kept it together pretty well, and only got a little teary once, which is pretty good considering the emotional state I was in. I am so thankful that Hannah was excited about school and didn't shed a single tear (she did awesome) because I honestly think I would have been a train-wreck  if she had cried or been upset about being left. David was a little jealous that Hannah got to stay, (he doesn't start MDO until next week) but he was happy to have my full attention and the cookie from the bakery at Target didn't hurt either ; ) (the bakery gives out free kids cookies, so I let my kids have one if they are good while we are at the store, it keeps them in line while I shop, and keeps them happy and occupied while I check out).  I love having some one on one time with him- he is such a precious little boy and I am so happy that I get a chance to have him all to myself! The week continued on with the funeral, which was hard- it was hard not having Mike there, and it was just a difficult day. Again I am so thankful that Hannah and David did so great. The church provided childcare during the service, so they played happily with their cousins. The service was beautiful, and included an invitation (appropriate for a funeral), and I love when an invitation is included at a funeral or memorial service. It is a fitting tribute to a Christian life, that even in death we can serve as a witness for Christ's love and forgiveness and offer the kind of comfort that can only come from God's Grace. Although they weren't around for the actual service, Hannah had lots of questions about what it means to die, and what a funeral is.  I explained as simply as I could, and she seemed satisfied with my answers, but man, that was a  tough conversation for me to get through without crying and going to peices. The children did attend the grave-side service (much quicker and only family and very close friends) and on a funny note, Hannah was VERY alarmed at all of the red lights I ran during the processional to the cemetary. (she is such a back seat driver!) She is so funny, and is very much a rule follower! The family had lunch at the church, and while it was great getting to see all of my Mom's side of the family, I wish the circumstances would have been different. The day of the funeral was also my birthday, and it was very strange. It did not feel like a birthday, and I honestly think I would have forgotten about it if not for facebook. I had two more days with the kiddos by myself while Mike was out of town and while the kids were sooo well behaved, I was drained. We picked Mike up at the airport on Sunday evening and we were all so glad to have him home. It was a physically and emotionally draining week, and this week has been a mix of recovering from last week and adjusting to our new school schedule.  While I do miss the freedom of summer, I am thankful to have a routine to get into as I am still emotional, and staying busy has helped me keep it together and have more time to mentally process everthing that has gone on. (I know makes sense right, staying busy has given me time...I know weird) Okay, that is going to have to suffice for a "wrap up" because honestly, how do you wrap this kind of post? 

Hannah's First Day Of Pre-K

Hannah started pre-k last week and has really enjoyed it! We were so lucky to get into the morning program, and got a great teacher!

I can't believe that Hannah is in school- I am thankful that it is only a half day program, because this Mama is not ready to give up my sweet girl all day! I think kindergarden is going to be tougher on me than on her, but I'll worry about that next year! Ha! She looks so big and grown up to me, where in the world did the time go?!

David's Room- A Preview

David loves music, and he LOVES guitars and begs to go to Uncle Jason's house to play drums, so we thought that having a fun rock theme would be perfect for his big boy room. 

 I am planning on getting a couple of cute pillows, but can't make up my mind, so this is it for now. The little blanket at the foot of the bed, was my brother's and then mine. 

I love the guitar picture-David was very excited about it too! The little blue chair was my Grandaddy's when he was a little boy, I really do love having vintage/ family peices in a room!

I love how this looks in real life! I spent a couple of hours going through boxes of records at an antique store trying to find records that had cool labels (is that what they're called?) and the best thing is that Hannah and David both knew what records where! I knew that the guitar would have to go up high or David would be constantly trying to get it down to "play". I have a few things left to frame and hang, but thought I'd show the progress so far. I am loving how it is coming together and David loves having a big boy bed!

Hannah's Room

A couple of weeks ago we decided it was time to put David in a real "big boy" bed. The toddler bed just wasn't enough room for him, and now he is a little peanut in a full size bed. His whole room has had a little make over and I am loving it! I am waiting on a few last things that I have ordered to come and then I will share some pics of his "new" room. While updating David's room, I decided that I wanted to switch Hannah and David's furniture, and Mike being the trooper that he is, graciously agreed to do it. I am so happy that we did- I am loving how both of their rooms look! I don't think I ever really shared pictures of when we did Hannah's "big girl" room, so I thought I would share them now.

I love how girly her room is- it fits her so well! 

The lamp on the dresser is from my Grandma's home, I took it years ago when we were struggling with infertility in hopes that I would one day have baby's nursery to put it in! It stayed in a box in our attic for many years, and it makes me think about how God has such perfection in His timing!

I love the little cherubs and think they are such a sweet vintage touch for a little girl's room!(the picture is so bad, but hopefully you get the idea!)

Hannah's little kitchen and "dressing table". David was very busy making "coffee" while I was taking these pictures- this boy loves his boots even though we haven't had rain in awhile and the weather has been oppressively hot! There is a cute little shadow box on the wall above this, and I have some really cute vintage prints that are waiting for frames. I am having a hard time finding frames the right size and style that I am willing to pay for. 

 One more view, Sophie loves Hannah's bed. She is up there when the kids are not in there. (Sophie is still not a huge fan of being around the kids, she is not a fan of the loud and rowdy, unless they have food, especially bananas) (Do you like how I throw out 10 kinds of random that has nothing to do with this post?) I never realized how much bigger this set of furniture is compared to what is now in David's room, and I am just loving the switch! So that is a little peek at Hannah's room, when I get a few things done in David's room I'll post some pics!
