Hannah had her dance recital on Sunday, and oh my goodness was her class adorable! I thought they did a really good job, especially considering their ages (3 & 4). I also thought their sweet incredibly patient teacher did a great job with this spirited bunch. They did a tap routine to "Pop goes the Weasel" and they had jack-in-the box costumes. May I present my jack-in-the box?
I will say that when Mike brought home this costume (I was sick that day and he took Hannah to class) I thought it was awful. It looks much cuter on than in a bag, but man those colors! I think if you stare at it too long, you may go blind! (and I think they were glowing in the dark backstage) Although I was a little unsure about the costume choice, the girls looked adorable on stage (and they were very easy to pick out of a crowd ; ))
I must say this whole experience has reaffirmed my belief that the pageant moms (you know, like on Toddlers & Tiaras) are crazy. If your older child wants to do pageants, fine, but if you are spray-tanning, airbrushing, teeth whitening, hair extension-ing your pre-schooler, you are crazy. It was all I could do to slap some powder, blush, and lip gloss on this kid. For a little girl who is very girly, she sure (thank goodness) has an aversion to make-up! The whole time I was trying to fix her hair and put a little make up on her (per the teacher's instructions) she kept telling me, "No Mommy, I don't want my hair like this, I just want it long, like a girl. I don't want to wear make-up. I just want to be a girl" I know the day will come when she will want to wear make-up, and she will want to have her hair like her friends, but for now I cherish this sweet little girl who likes to be just as she is. Make-up drama aside, I has a blast with my girl this weekend.
My sweet friend Trisha has a video if you want to check out the girls in action.
