Her Heart Sings

Hannah loves to sing. And I love to listen to her sing. I don't think there is a sweeter sound than children singing (well...maybe baby giggles). Hannah's mother's day out had a little musical performance for grandparents day, and I thought Hannah was such a sweetie. She sang her little songs and did her sweet little motions, and my heart was just about ready to burst. 

Medical Mondays- Medicine On TV

So I am curious to know,do you watch medical TV? Medical shows run the gamut from Scrubs to Mystery Diagnosis with very popular shows such as ER, House and Grey's Anatomy somewhere in the middle. I am not a huge fan of medical shows- I am squeamish, and also not so much into dramas and that pretty much knocks out most shows that revolve around medicine.  However, I will say that I did jump on the Grey's bandwagon way back when. When it first came out, Mike would watch it with me. And it would drive me crazy, because Mike would pick apart the episode, pointing out how incredibly unrealistic it was, and every time something was medically incorrect. I now watch Grey's alone, and we are both happier. Mike is not about to die of a mix of boredom/ irritation and I get to watch my show with only the occasional interruption from a child who should be sleeping. The only downfall to watching Grey's alone? Mike isn't able to tell me when it's okay to look. (Remember? Squeamish!)

On The Mend

Or should it be on the move...

Here is David trying to get into the cabinet that holds all of the cleaning supplies...moments before he was trying to get the kitchen shears out of the dishwasher while I was trying to unload the clean dishes. It's funny because when we baby-proofed this house it was because that's what you do, you baby proof your house when you have a toddler. Hannah didn't really get into anything, but we baby-proofed anyway, because we did not want to test that theory. David on the other hand, is into everything. He is constantly trying to make a move on the dog food, and this afternoon he made it into the dog water before I could scoop him up. All I know is I'm sure glad this was already done.

And when I say he is into everything, I mean everything. I was trying to get dressed and he kept going into the dog crate. Finally I decided why fight it? It did keep him contained while I got dressed and it kept me from having to yank shoes out of his hands. (on the way to his mouth...I know...ewwwww) He kept pulling the little door shut, if I tried to pull it open, he would laugh and then pull it shut again. I'm probably encouraging his wild man ways by taking his picture, but I have to have something to embarrass him with when he's in high-school!

Obviously my little man is feeling much better- he is not 100%, but he is getting there. He is staying home with me instead of going to MDO- I want him to get a chance to rest more and don't want to risk him catching anything from anybody. It is the first day of fall and I have already had my fill of sick kids, thank you very much. It's a busy week...busy chasing my little Rover!

Poor Baby

Poor little David is sick. It started with a runny nose, then a cough. Last night was rough- poor little guy just couldn't get comfortable so we were up for most of the night. Bless his heart, he was so good today, and you could just tell that he felt awful. We went to the pediatrician this afternoon and my sweet little guy has a double ear infection, and he suspects that he may have RSV. We headed over to the hospital for x-rays and lab work, and giving a baby a chest x-ray is something I could have lived my whole life without doing. His flu test came back negative, and his x-ray wasn't good, but it wasn't awful, so we will keep our eye on him and he will go back again for another x-ray next week. : ( I am not looking forward to that- I think we may have to call in the big guns and Daddy may have to take him for that. I am hoping that he will have a better night tonight, and will be on the up-swing soon. 

Will You Take A Look At This

Will you take a look at this little man?! He is pulling/ pushing up and I keep telling him to slow down- he is too little to be standing!! I mean seriously...what's next...walking?!! My little Rover is into everything, and while I love how open our home is, it is not conducive to gates, and I must say, as ugly as they are I wouldn't mind being able to contain my little guy, because he is into everything!

Medical Mondays- Is There A Doctor In The House?

Hannah was sick last week. She started running a fever Wednesday night and I didn't think too much of it. Thursday morning, she was still running a fever, but wasn't really displaying any other symptoms so I wasn't too concerned. I knew she wasn't feeling well- she was whiny and just not acting like her usually active self and so I let her have a Blue's Clues marathon. But since her temp wasn't too high I decided to just continue with a little Tylenol and keep my eye on her. Thursday afternoon her temperature shot up to a little over 105 and I had a little shot of panic shoot through me. She was acting super pitiful and I called Mike, and the pediatrician, but forgot that our pediatrician closes early on Thursdays. Mike worked Thursday night, so he wasn't going to be home to take a look at our little patient. He called a buddy who is a pediatrician, and he agreed to stop by our house after he got off work, and I felt so much better. Hannah's fever went down to a much more manageable 102 and she seemed to be feeling a little better so I decided that we could forego our visit from our friend, and if she was still running a high temp on Friday I would take her in to the pediatrician. Well, her temp was back up on Friday and so we headed in to the pediatrician and long weekend later, Hannah is feeling better. 

I must admit, having a husband who is a doctor is very reassuring to me when our little family is dealing with an illness. And we are so blessed to have so many friends from medical school who are willing to help out in a pinch if we ever need it. So tell me, any good stories of the benefits of having a doctor in the house?

The Best Laid Plans...

So I had big plans for last week- I was ready to dive into our new schedule, had lots of things all planned out... and then Hannah got sick. So not a whole lot was accomplished around here, and I am in the midst of trying to get everything back to "normal" (ha!) Hannah's fever broke yesterday, and she has remained fever free. She is feeling much better and I am so thankful. I have spent the day trying to get the laundry under control, and my closet finished up. (I started a major overhaul on my closet when my Mom was in town- before Hannah was sick. I didn't get to finish and am now trying to get everything back in order) Tomorrow I will hopefully get a chance to run a few errands and get a few things done around the house. I have some fun things planned for Hannah and David this week, and hopefully I will get a chance to share. Good heavens, could this post be more boring? If you are still reading, I hope your weekend was more exciting than mine!

YIKES!

Yikes! It has been awhile since I updated, both the kiddos are napping so I thought I would pop in real quick! (ha!) And of course my favorite way to mention a whole lot of random? Bullet points!

• Hannah had her hair cut last week and I LOVE it!!! It is shorter but super cute! If I can ever get a decent picture that actually shows the cut, I will post.

• David is all over, all of the time! He is enjoying his new found mobility and can move across the room at an impressive rate! He is very interested in the dog food, and Hannah is on her toes saying "No No No, Brother". She is such a little mother, but she will flip out if he tries to take her paci. FLIP. OUT.

• I have been trying to organize my closet and it is taking me a sweet forever to go through everything. Hannah loves to "play" with my scarves, shoes, hand-bags, jewelry, etc. so I am trying to come up with a practical but "Hannah-proof" way of storing everything.

• My Mom came up for a surprise visit on Sunday and honestly I felt like flipping with excitement! I love when my Mom comes to town!

• Hannah started gymnastics on Wednesday and it was AWFUL!!!!! The teacher was terrible- I cannot think of a single thing she did correct. I coached gymnastics for 6(?) years,including pre-school classes so I feel like I have reasonable expectations. (I cannot remember the exact number of years because I am getting OLD) I was honestly about to pull my hair out. Luckily we found out that the teacher was just a sub, and I am hoping that next week will be better. But honestly it could not be worse.

• Mike and I are going to be small group leaders with a high school group at our church, our first meeting went really well and I am excited about getting to know everyone better.

• While the meeting went great, it made me feel OLD. As in OLD.

• Our power was knocked out by a storm while we were at said meeting, and my sweet Mom had the kids at home in the dark! She is such a champ, Hannah didn't seem to mind the candles and proclaimed "It smells good!", but the Hornet didn't care for the ambiance of candlelight. I think he thought we were trying to trick him into going to bed. 

• The power was out for a sweet forever and I am reminded of how much I really do love my air conditioner. 

• Hannah was feeling warm, but not due to the lack of AC, she was running a fever.

• She slept pressed up against me in my bed, except for when I shoved her over because I was about to have a heat stroke due to aforementioned lack of AC. She then pressed herself up against Mike.

• Yesterday her sweet little self was just pitiful. Her temp shot up to 104.7 and Mama started to freak out. (a little)

• We went to the pediatrician this morning and he suspects strep- fun times this weekend friends, fun times.

So that is a little bit of what I've been up to, pray that Hannah feels better and no one else gets sick!! I really have to go get some laundry going while my brood is asleep. Happy weekend!!

On The Move

Guess who's on the move at our house?

Do you need a hint? 

Because I know that you are thinking that this little man is too little to be crawling- but much to my astonishment, David started crawling. He has been on the move for 10 days and last night he pushed himself up to standing. I keep telling him to slow down, that he is too little, but he just keeps on movin'! I want to stop the clock, because time is going way too fast! But as they say, "time marches on" and before I know it, this little guy will be marching right along with it!

Seriously, It's September?

Where is all the time going? Time is absolutely flying by and I can't believe it's September! I feel that finally at 7 months, I am starting to hit my stride with two little ones. I am finally (Praise the LORD!!!) sleeping through the night (most nights) and am finally getting a handle on the housework. Since the kids have started Mother's Day Out, we have had a rough routine that I have been tweaking and next week I am "officially" starting our new fall schedule. I know that September will still be a month of hit or miss, but I do so much better with a schedule/ routine as opposed to a calendar full of free time, so we will go with the plan and make adjustments when necessary. I am hoping to share some of what we have (and will) be up to and would love to hear what you are up to. Do you follow a routine or plan of some kind?
