I have received a lot of questions about where we are moving, and while I will most likely not give specifics here, those of you who I know and have emailed I will get back to you soon! I have been really behind responding to emails so please forgive me! I am planning a post to address a few things that I have received questions about, (where we are moving, what is Mike's specialty, etc) but it is kind of complicated so I am going to take my time, and since the post is about Mike, I want him to have a chance to read and edit anything that he wants first. Hopefully this will happen in the next couple of weeks.
In other news I am still busy trying to get everything ready for Hannah's party, keep up with the never ending abundance of housework, make moving preparations, find a new house (yeah- so exciting!!), etc, so if I miss a few days here and there; you can guess as to what I'm up too! I also have a new blogging project in the works and will give you more information about that as soon as I get things finalized. Hope you had a great weekend!
It's Friday and we are Fighting the Frump with Fussy! I don't know about you, but the one accessory that I absolutely cannot live without is sunglasses! For me this is a year- round necessity! I have incredibly sensitive eyes and can hardly keep my eyes open during daylight hours without them. (seriously- I keep a back-up pair in my car just in case I ever lose them) So not only are sunglasses functional, but they are fashionable as well. A good pair of sunglasses can really help transform your look, protect your eyes, and really go a long way to making you look polished. This is a great guide to help you find the right shape for your face- but I still recommend trying on various styles. Sometime the right shape may be an inappropriate size so it is always best to try before you buy. Also make sure that they fit- as in they do not slide off your face or pinch behind your ears (ouch!).
Also make sure that your sunglasses offer UV protection. This is an excellent article on the importance of protecting your eyes. So whether you choose classic aviators, dramatic Jackie O glasses or anything in between- make sure they offer protection so you can look great and keep your eyes healthy!
Sunglasses are an affordable way to add some polish to your look. (if you look at celebrity pics they are nearly always wearing them). TJ Max, Stein Mart, and Marshall's all carry great designer sunglasses at a fraction of the suggested retail price. So no matter how much you decide to spend- fight the frump with a great pair of shades!
Thanks to Mrs. Fussypants for hosting, head over to check out other frump fighting ideas, or post one of your own!
Hannah's birthday is in two weeks and I have been busy making plans for her party. I made her invitations and they are in the mail, now I am trying to figure out what I want to do for favors. It is a one year old party so it is basically for adults, but there will be other babies there too. Her party theme is cupcakes- I have been trying to find a cookie-cutter in the shape of a cupcake, but I haven't had any luck finding one. I have thought of embroidering bibs for the little guests, but am concerned about any who RSVP late, or just show up, so I am still thinking about this one. I am trying to not spend a fortune- it is a party for a one year old, but I still want it to be special- after all it is her first birthday!
We have a lot going on right now! When I think of everything that is going to transpire in the next three months my head starts to spin a little. Hannah will be turing one, we will be looking for a house and moving to another city, and Mike will finish his internship and begin his residency. Add that to the everyday happenings, all of the craziness that goes with moving (with a mobile little one getting into everything!) and all of the other things going on that I won't list (because you would probably be bored to tears, and yet I will probably blog about all of them at some point) and yeah, just a little bit of spinning.
As we are preparing to move on to a new chapter of our lives I am excited. Also slightly overwhelmed, but excited. I am ready to look for a house!! We have rented the past year and while the house is fine, it doesn't really feel like home. I think I have never really felt completely settled here because I knew that we were only here for a year. I think that is one of the things that I am looking forward to the most- feeling settled.
So with a lot on my to-do list I am trying to not get stressed, and enjoy the journey. I am trying not to look forward to what is to come so much that I miss out on the now. I am one of those people who actually does really well with a full schedule, because if I don't have very much going on I tend to procrastinate on everything because I feel like I have so much time. So hopefully with everything going on I will be productive and (somewhat!) timely about things.
I got Hannah's Easter basket all fixed up, and I think it looks pretty cute. I thought I had a wide pink grosgrain ribbon for the bow, but I couldn't find it so I had to substitute, but over all I am very happy with how it turned out. Especially since I embroidered her initials/ name on the basket liner myself!
So tonight I am getting ready for tomorrow and loving on my little guy. Oliver had surgery yesterday and came home today. He had been limping, and had a problem with his right hind patella. We decided a couple of weeks ago to schedule the surgery to try and avoid further injury. The vet had been concerned about him injuring his left leg by over-compensating for the right. Despite our best efforts, Oliver ended up tearing his ACL on his left leg. My poor little guy is just pitiful! Hopefully he will be feeling and moving around better tomorrow.

Hannah will be one in a couple of weeks. I cannot believe it- the year has gone by so quickly. This time last year I was pregnant, and now I am planning her first birthday. It blows my mind. I am now getting toddler mail. You know how when you have a baby, you get on some mailing list and you get fliers, information packets, coupons, and samples from various companies? Well now I am apparently on a toddler list. I was flipping through the mail and there it was "For your growing toddler..." What? You mean my baby? The ad pictured little children, children.
I find myself looking at Hannah and catching little glimpses of a child. She is starting to lose that baby look and look, well more like a toddler. This freaks part of me out, part of me wants to keep her as my little baby. But that's not how it works and she will grow up. I was loading Hannah into her car seat at the mall the other day when a man passing by commented, "She's beautiful. Enjoy every moment, they grow up so fast. Mine is getting married in a few weeks". And I know that Hannah too will grow up. I find myself trying to soak up these precious moments, mindful that they will pass all too quickly. It does go fast- but is sure is the best ride.
I love to cook, and I love to find new recipes. For the longest time I had so many recipes that I wanted to try but never did because they were such a mess- some pulled from magazines, others emailed by friends, others printed from the internet- you know how it goes; all stacked up together in one big mess. But no more- I found a system that is so easily maintained and keeps all of my recipes at hand ready to try!
First I divided all of my recipes by type; mine are Chicken/ Poultry, Beef, Fish/Shrimp, Pork, Pasta, Potato Sides, Vegetable Sides, Appetizers/ Snacks, Brunch, Drinks, Desserts, Cookies, and Soups/Salads/Sandwiches. I divided them up this way so when I am planning my meals it is easy for me to find a new recipe that fits. Each category then went into a slash-cut jacket (plastic page holder thing- click on the link to see a picture!) Then each jacket was labeled and put in a three ring binder.
This keeps all of the recipes I want to try organized- when I try a recipe if I don't like it, it gets tossed.
For the recipes that are keepers:
I have general categories, main dishes, sides, desserts, etc. Each category has a divider, the recipes that I like get hole punched and put behind each divider. It is contained in a 3 ring binder- no more piles of recipes! Easy peasy!
Easy to maintain, easy to use- works for me!
