Baby Phat

Actually it really is just baby fat. How long can I call it baby fat? Or at this point is it just fat? Mike and I would both like to lose a little weight, so we set up a friendly challenge for an eight week time frame- my goal is to get the rest of my baby weight off and then a little extra. My goal is 15 pounds, and as of today I've lost 4. The winner gets a massage, if we both meet our goal it's couple massage time! I think my goal is attainable- I'm being sensible about what I eat- but I'm not dieting because I'm still nursing. I am trying to get back in the habit of exercising, but it has been hard trying to find time. But because I am a really competitive person, I know I will make time. Oh I will be getting that massage, and I hope Mike does too!

Eight Years Ago Today

If you are a regular reader, you might remember that I just cleaned out, sorted, and purged several areas of our home. There was a box in the garage that is full of high-school memorabilia. One item is a planner- and oh my was I a busy thing! Eight years ago I was a senior in high school- and this is what I was up to:
College enrollment for spring class (I took some college courses during the spring semester instead of high-school classes)
Sophomore Challenge (a volunteer challenge where the seniors work with the sophomores on a volunteer project; part of leadership class)
Character First (character building activities with local elementary school)
Basketball Game (I was a cheerleader)

I was really involved in high-school- and I liked it. I still have really good friends that I met in high-school, Mike and I started dating in high-school so I have so many good memories. I know that so many people hated their high-school years, I'm glad that over all I enjoyed my experience. But checking out this planner makes me wonder when I slept- no wonder I was so dang skinny!!

Christmas Comes Early

Mike was insistent that I open my gift today. He wrapped it and put it under the tree yesterday, and I kept insisting that I did not want to open it, because then I would not have a gift to open on Christmas. He insisted that I would, and PLEASE open it. I gave in and opened it.

Can I just say how sweet my husband is? I love the Willow People figurines- we have several, and I have been coveting the Nativity for a few years. (that feels strange to write, coveting a Nativity) Mike was attentive enough to know that it was something I wanted, and smart enough to force me to open it so I could enjoy it. He had the foresight to know that I would feel disappointed opening it on Christmas morning knowing it would be put away. Isn't that so sweet? Thanks Mike- I love it!!

Santa Baby

Hannah had her picture taken with Santa today. We have been scoping out all the Santas at the different malls- Mike was very particular about the Santa we chose, we went to a Christmas specialty store on the other side of town to see this particular Santa. When we walked into the store- oh my! I have never seen so much stuff! They had any kind of ornament you could imagine- seriously anything Christmas, they had. So we wander around and we find where Santa is located- and he was at lunch. They were not sure what time he had left- but assured us that we would be the first to go when he returned, and handed us a pager. Well, apparently Santa had just gone to lunch, because an hour later, he was still gone. The little helper seemed a little frantic and kept assuring us that he should be back any minute. Thirty minutes later he finally showed up. Oh yes, we waited for an hour and a half. I was expecting Hannah to cry when we handed her over, but to my happy surprise she was very good. We didn't get a full blown smile on camera- but we did get a half grin and a free sheet of pictures for waiting so long. And I will say, he did look like the real Santa.

Conversations At 6:30 In the Morning

Last night was not a good night. Hannah woke up at least once an hour, therefore I got no sleep until around 5:30. Mike got home around 6:30.
Me: "How was your night?"
Mike: "Busy"
Me: "Did you get to sleep?"
Mike: "No, I had a patient that kept me up all night"
Me: "Did your patient scream all night?"
Mike: "No"
Me: "Oh yes, screamed! Can you guess what time I got to go to bed?"
(does not wait for reply)
Me: "Five freaking thirty...by the way I looked up those VanHalen tickets and the cheapest ones I could find were $160 each, and they were the worst possible seats you could have. Sorry, we're not going"
Was I fun to come home to or what?

You Must Be Smarter Than A 5th Grader

Get a Cash Advance

I'm not sure what to think of this- does this mean that I am writing at a junior-high level? Should I be insulted? How do they determine the reading level? Who are they? Something for me to ponder as I start addressing my Christmas cards...

Tis' The Season

We put up our Christmas tree today- we always try to get it up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but this year feels a little early. (perhaps because there is an entire week of November left!) I love Christmas, it is my favorite holiday; and I love decorating our tree. It is a little trip down memory lane as we hang the ornaments. The first year that Mike and I dated, I got him a little heart ornament with our names on it. It became a tradition and we have added a heart ornament each year- this year makes 10 hearts! This year was extra special because we added special ornaments for Hannah. I also put a little tree up in her room- I think it looks pretty cute! Our Christmas cards also arrived today- now all I have to do is address them and get them in the mail. Mike works a 24 tomorrow so I think I will try to get started then. Other Christmas related things on my list this week:
•find a stocking/ holder for Hannah
•purchase Christmas stamps
•have Hannah's picture made with Santa
•purchase Christmas jammies for Hannah

Old Friends

Today one of my oldest and dearest friends came over for a visit- she lives in New York and today was the first time she met Hannah. I wish I got to see her more- she is such a blast and she and I can pick up right where we left off so easily, no matter how long it's been. It was great to see her and little Hannah liked her. Tonight Mike and I had dinner with two of his friends from high-school and their wives and little girls. It was nice to get to see them and catch up- it is also weird to think that all of us are parents now. Since Mike and I dated while we were in high-school we know each other's sets of friends, so it can be odd to see your old high-school friends as husbands, wives, and parents. I wonder if the people I went to high-school with have a hard time thinking of me as a wife and mother? Do you have people you went to high-school with that you have a hard time imagining as married or as a parent? Honestly, I can't imagine my life any other way.

Little Friends

Today I had lunch with one of my best friends- her little girl is two weeks older than Hannah. It was so fun to be pregnant together and now watching the girls grow up. After lunch they came over to play- the girls were so cute! Hannah is so interested in other babies and since they have grown up together they are familiar with each other, and were just so darn adorable! More tomorrow- gotta go hang out with my sweet hubby!
