Hannah and I started Gymboree today. It was a class of boys- only one other little girl! Some of the babies were dressed in their Halloween costumes, there was a Yoda, poodle, and pumpkin. Hannah had a lot to take in- some of the babies in the class are crawling and she watched very intently. She loved the parachute and bubbles and seemed to enjoy the change of scenery. All of this said, I am not so fond of the clown mascot, Gymbo. As you may recall I HATE clowns. However, I am willing to put aside my irrational fear as to not pass it down to my daughter. But, let it be noted that I am not a fan of that creepy little clown.

What is the one article of clothing that you refuse to part with and why?
One? Oh but my closet is filled with many items that I refuse to get rid of, making it impossible to choose just one. So I have several, these particular items were things I could get to with relative ease, but there are more. I think I will have to do another installment on this one.
First up is a vintage leather trench that belonged to my Grams. I wore it in college, and I still keep it because it is vintage leather. And I like it.

Next up, more vintage leather via my Grams. I have a thing for vintage leather. I have not actually worn this, but maybe one day I might.

This used to be a floor length formal. I wore it my junior year in high school to the Christmas dance. I had it chopped short and wore it to a cocktail party during Mike's first year of medical school.

Ahhhh memories. This is the dress I was wearing the night Mike proposed. Along with the red dress above, there is no way I can fit into it, but I am emotionally attached to this dress.

Last is my first Coach bag. My Grandma got it for me and I felt very grown up, it was my first real purse.
So there are just a few of the things in my closet that I refuse to let go. There are others, but I will save some of the fun for another day.
What a day! Hannah and I were up a lot last night, and up early this morning so it has been a long day. We went to the store, did laundry, picked up around the house, I went out and got my sewing supplies, fixed chili for dinner, and caught up on emails/ etc. Now I have to finish up more laundry, finish cleaning up the kitchen and plan out the week. I have to plan out my week or I end up getting nothing done. So with that in mind I will post something better tomorrow..it's a writing challenge about an article of clothing that you refuse to get rid of...and I will post pictures. Because oh my do I have things in my closet that I need to let go. It could end up being a photo essay... but I'll save it for tomorrow.
Mike and I went to the ballet last night. It was nice to get dressed up and have a date. Mike got me season tickets for my birthday and last night was the first performance- I love our seats! However while our seats are in my opinion, the ideal place in the theatre, the two older ladies who sat behind us were not my idea of the ideal audience. They were talking to each other- I don't think they were making any effort to be quiet either. And someone a few rows over brought their toddler. I am all for exposing kids to all kinds of events- but please don't bring your child to an event like this if they cannot sit through it. (did I mention that the performance began at 8pm?) After intermission the two old ladies did not return- I'm not sure if they didn't like the performance, had to get home early, or were confused and thought the show was over- any way I enjoyed the second half in silence except for the toddler on the verge of a meltdown. Complaining aside, we had a very lovely evening. I just hope that the old ladies and toddler parents don't have season tickets too.
So tonight I had my first sewing lesson. I have wanted to learn for awhile now- I even got a sewing machine for Christmas a couple of years ago. I tried to make a few simple little projects, but always got frustrated because I didn't know what I was doing and ended up using stitch withcery to finish them. So the sewing machine was put away, but in some random corner of my head, I still had the desire to learn to sew.
A few weeks ago we got a course catalog in the mail for a local vo-tech school, I was casually flipping through and noticed a class for beginning sewing. I checked the dates on the calendar, talked it over with Mike and got online and enrolled. And tonight was the first class. It was a little intimidating- the sewing machine itself intimidates me, but I keep assuring myself that the class is for beginners and I will do just fine. (has anyone seen the episode of Frasier, where Niles and Frasier take the automotive repair class at the local community college? No? Just me then?) We got a long supply list...I think that is one trip to the fabric store that I will have to go alone, I cannot imagine getting home with all of the correct supplies if I take Hannah with me- I get distracted very easily and I can imagine the look on the instructors face when I show up without the correct materials. How long can I use the excuse "I just had a baby"? I think I am a little far gone for that! So I have some solo shopping to do, and I need to find the manual for the machine to take with me to class- but I think it's going to be good- one way or the other, I'm sure you'll get to read about it!
While waiting on the dryer I was very busy wasting time on line and I came across this. It cracks me up! Now nap time is over and the dryer still isn't finished- so no more wasting time for me, but I'll give you two guesses as to what I'll be doing the next time I have a few minutes...
My little one is getting bigger- but not fast enough to grow into her 6-12 month clothes that are appropriate for the weather. When I bought/ received them as gifts, I was afraid that she would grow into them too fast while the weather was still warm! She can still wear some of her 0-3 month things, but most of the stuff that fits her well is 3-6 months, and almost all of it is summer clothes. She has a few things for cool weather that fit- but literally just a few, not enough to get us through the week. This hasn't been a problem because the weather has been nice, and I was hoping that she would hit a growth spurt before the cold weather set in. Well today was cold- and the temperature is supposed to stay cool- and no growth spurt. So today I bundled up my little one and we headed off to try to find some things to help her make it until she grows into her 6-12 month clothes, it was a little tricky. Trying to find things that went together in the right size...was surprisingly hard. I am no stranger to shopping for baby clothes- but today the picking was slim! We did find some cute things and hopefully they will hold us over until she can fit in her 6-12 month things!
